During years 7,8 and 9 all pupils will follow the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum in English, Maths, RE, Science, Art, Drama, Geography, History, ICT, a modern foreign language (Spanish, French, Japanese or German), Technology, PE and Personal, Social and Health Education, including life skills.
In years 10 and 11 all pupils will follow a curriculum of English, Maths, Science, RE, and P.S.H.E. They will then have the opportunity to choose up to 6 optional courses from a wide variety of subjects, as well as working towards The Duke of Edinburgh Award.
It is very important to us that our pupils remain inspired and challenged throughout their school lives and to maintain their interest during the week there are activity sessions. PE will be during one of these sessions and the pupils will be taken out of school for expert tuition in various areas. For example pupils will work on golf skills for half a term each year at Morley Hayes golf club. Other subjects covered will be ice skating, tennis and rock climbing. These sessions will also be used to visit local sites and back up learning in other subjects.
Staff will work very hard to pursue pupils interests and develop self-esteem and confidence. All pupils will have the opportunity to accept and overcome various challenges, for example the 3-peak challenge. They will also have the opportunity to develop new skills, for example working at a local theatre on sound lighting and editing or liaising with local conservation groups and working with them to make a difference in local environments and further afield.
